Wild Coast Wagyu’s Origins
Wild Coast Wagyu began its exciting journey in the heart of the unspoiled and beautiful Wild Coast, in the Eastern Cape, South Africa – a place where you’ll find cattle roaming free along the rolling hills and shoreline. It was birthed out of special bonds between friends and family, out of their desire to share the Wagyu experience with everyone, and a founding belief in creating a meaningful connection between people and the food we eat. The Wild Coast Wagyu journey has continued as we have spread our footprint towards the breathtaking KZN Midlands, settling on the iconic heritage farm of Greenfields, Mooi River.
A Family-Run Business
Gerald Dreyer discovered the magic of Wagyu beef during a trip to Hong Kong. He fell in love with it, and upon returning to South Africa, he could find nothing like it. In 2017 the seed was planted, and one man’s dream became a reality, bringing like-minded partners into the fold, uniting their experience in business, farming, and marketing, to build the Wild Coast Wagyu brand and help more people discover the incredible experience that is Wagyu, making our products easy to access no matter where you are.
Today, Wild Coast Wagyu has expanded into the midlands of KwaZulu-Natal, a place removed from the hustle and bustle of city life, and where country living is at its finest.
It’s All About the Cows
Our Wagyu are not just any cows, they come from a long line of nobility with their ancestry traced back to Japan (the country responsible for this Wagyu delicacy). Their legacy is respected at every level of the farming process, and they are treated like royalty.
With devotion to the intricate art of Wagyu farming, Gerald and his team add that special heart and warmth to their business and are sure to leave a legacy of their own for generations to come.

Why Choose Wagyu?
Quality That Never Misses the Mark
Our genetics and quality control standards are unapologetically strict. When you buy a Wild Coast Wagyu product, you always know that only the best wagyu beef reaches your table. Our Wagyu is Certified South African Wagyu Beef (CSAWB) and is a registered trademark of the Wagyu Society of South Africa (WSSA) . No corners are cut in bringing you authentic Wagyu.
More Marbling Than Average
The more marbling in the beef, the better. We don’t settle for mediocre marbling that just makes the mark. We ensure that your beef displays wonderfully dense layers of intramuscular fat that guarantees a gastronomical experience like no other!
We Have Nothing to Hide
From pasture to plate, you will always be able to trace every step of your Wagyu’s journey. We believe in accountability and transparency, and our processes reflect this.
Our Cows’ Lives Have Purpose
Out of respect for the lives our cows have led, we make sure that nothing is wasted. From the prime beef to the offcuts to the hide to the hooves, every part has a purpose.
WE TREAT OUR COWS WITH CARE
Your conscience can rest, knowing that we employ humane practices at all levels of our Wagyu farming. We treat the cows like royalty, letting them roam free, graze on healthy grass, and soak up the sunlight! There is no need to feed our cows hormones or antibiotics, as their lifestyle keeps them healthy and happy.
A Long List of Health Benefits
You can feel good about eating Wagyu as it contains monounsaturated fats – the healthy fat that does not lead to high cholesterol. It also contains fatty acids such as omega 3 and 6, which boast considerable benefits, such as lowered blood-pressure, reduced inflammation, and reduced risk of dementia.
LESS IS MORE
For those wanting to cut down on their red meat consumption, Wagyu is a great way to enjoy meat. Because Wagyu packs more ‘protein per pound’ than alternative meats, it leads to greater satiety, meaning that you do not have to eat as much to feel full.
Treat Yourself to a Truly Special Taste
No matter where you enjoy our Wagyu, you’re guaranteed a rich, beefy flavour, and a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth experience – a recipe for a truly memorable meal.
We Genuinely Care About People and the Planet
Wild Coast Wagyu practices regenerative farming, moving herds from one lot to the next to ensure our pastures are not overgrazed and depleted of their nutrients and rich plant and insect life that supports biodiversity. In addition to this, we are heavily invested in our social responsibility to uplift and empower the community in which we reside, and its people.
WORLD-RENOWNED GENETICS
With the Japanese embargo on Wagyu and its genetics, it’s important to understand the significance of our 100% certified Wagyu cattle. Not only are our world-renowned genetics ranked in the top 5% globally, but we’ve also established complete traceability on our certification and our animals, ensuring you get the highest quality, every time.
